Any driver, who logs more then eight days in a consecutive 30 day period, will be required to use an electronic logging device that is considered a certified and a registered device with FMCSA.
These devices will have to be connected to the engine so that drive time will automatically record. The device will also be required to automatically record time, date, position of the vehicle, and the vehicle operational parameters.
Three exemptions to the ELD ruling are: drivers who are involved with driveaway-towaway operations, short haulers, and vehicles that are manufactured before 2000.
